Video: Pituamkek (Hog Island Sandhills) Parks Canada

Do you know about Pituamkek (Bee-DOO-um-gek), the newest national park reserve in Canada? Nestled on the northwestern shores of Epekwitk (Prince Edward Island), this special place features ancient archaeological sites, coastal dune ecosystems, and a rare 240-million-year-old igneous rock formation.

While Pituamkek isn’t yet ready to receive visitors, the partnership with the Mi’kmaq Epekwitnewaq Kapmntemuow allows the protection of its beautiful landscapes for generations to come while celebrating Mi’kmaw heritage and culture. Glacier National Park

A place of stunning landscapes, epic adventures, and rich glaciological history.

The year of glacier preservation

This four-season paradise in the Columbia Mountains is known for its lush rainforests, steep mountains, deep snow, and, as the name suggests, glaciers.

2025 is the United Nations International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation! Glaciers shape mountains and valleys. They provide an essential source of fresh water. With iconic beauty, they paint the mountains white year-round.

Pictures of the past

The Vaux family were among the first tourists here over 125 years ago. The changes they saw in the glaciers from one visit to the next inspired them to continue studying them. Their photographs are some of the earliest records of glacial retreat.

Look at glacier photos from 1898 compared to today. Have you ever been curious about the changes you see in nature over time? The Vaux family was!
